Seedless watermelons

What are seedless watermelons?

Seedless watermelons are not genetically modified (GMO), but are hybrid varieties, developed by crossing of other varieties.

The reason they have few or no seeds is that when they are pollinated, varieties with different numbers of chromosomes (22 from the male flower and 44 from the female) are mixed, which results in a sterile plant.

Seeds are sometimes present, but not in their ripe form (black and hard), but as white husks which are barely noticeable when eaten.

Why seedless watermelons are preferable

As well as being seedless, our watermelons offer outstanding taste. The varieties we grow consistently have a very thin rind, crisp flesh, plenty of juice, a rich aroma and sweetness throughout.

They are also smaller than conventional watermelons, making them easier to store in the fridge and easier to enjoy.
